As many of you may know, Viacom, the parent company of Nick Jr. decided to start airing NickMom. NickMom is a profanity laced, perverted "comedy". NickMom starts at 10:00PM Eastern and 7:00PM Pacific. With three children under four years of age and paying extra per month to have the NickJr channel, NickMom is one of the worst signs of corporate greed and bad decision making I have seen in years. This led me to create www.cancelnickmom.com to provide unhappy viewers a place to vent and organize an assault to have this program removed or altered. We are the voice of millions of parents. We will not stand quietly while Viacom's corporate greed and irresponsiblility destroy one of the only 24 hour preschool channels.
Why we do not want NickMom on the air:
1. Foul language and bad images for young children to see and hear are not appropriate for a "preschool" channel.
2. Only changing the format to collect extra advertisement revenue, not due to customer demand or request.
3. Airing NickMom at 10:00PM Eastern, leaving the western United States with no NickJr after 7:00PM.
Steps we can take to end NickMom:
1. Write an email expressing your discontent with Viacom's decision to air NickMom. We also provide templates for your use.
2. Use your cable providers on-demand function to watch your shows, do not watch Nick Jr.
3. Boycott Nick Jr. Watch other channels such as Sprout or Disney Jr.
4. Call and/or email Viacom and companies advertizing during NickMom hours and express your discontent with the programming choice.
Cancelnickmom.com will be your centralized voice providing support and help to allow you a chance to voice our concerns and displeasure with the new programming. We have the power to make a change. It might not happen over a month’s time, but we will prevail. |
"Why have you put garbage such as NickMom on a PRESCHOOL channel??? Sometimes, I do allow my child to stay up past 10 pm, and sometimes, she does wake up in the middle of the night. Used to, I was able to let her watch nickjr until she went back to sleep. Nick jr is the biggest reason I have kept the satellite plan I have. But if I have to tolerate this nonsense, she won't be watching the channel at all. We will be watching disney, or Dvd's. Please take this junk off the air immediately. If you must show it, why not on nick teen? Not that its appropriate, but it is better than on nick jr." - Stephanie
"My son is 3 years old and watches Nick Jr. constantly. He usually lays down for bed around 8:30 or 9:00 and watches Nick Jr. until he falls asleep. Yes, I do regret ever putting a tv in his room because now he will not go to sleep without it. Which means that if I can not get him to sleep before 9:00 he either has to come to bed with me or lay on the couch to watch something that is already recorded until he falls asleep. I pray every night that he does not wake up in the middle of the night before 1:00am when cartoons come back on. I should not have to go through this and I should not have to listen to my son cry because he wants to watch his shows. I was completely unaware of the change until it happened. After doing a little research they released their intent to put Nick Mom on Nick Jr. over a year ago. I honestly do not understand the thought process behind this, you would think that they would know that parents want their children to be entertained before themselves. I watched about 3 minutes of Parental Discretion and in that short amount of time they covered douching too much being bad for your vagina and the female orgasm. I was completely appalled! This is unacceptable and something needs to be done. I do not want my 3 year old to turn his tv on and hear the awful things that these shows discuss." - Laci
"I had never heard of NickMom until this last Friday night (Oct 5). It was just about 7 pm here in WA and my twin 3 year old sons were watch Nick Jr as we were getting ready to make a quick run to the store. I was putting my shoes on when a show I was unfamiliar with came on, it was NickMom Night Out (Los Angles episode). The host was getting ready to introduce the comedian and was telling some jokes. The "joke" went something along the lines of this: I was in NYC and actually saw an Asian baby with real Asian parents". My jaw dropped and I was shocked! As an adoptive mother I could not believe that a network network that is geared first preschoolers would think a joke like this is ok and secondly that mothers would think this was funny, or perhaps this was only programming meant for mothers that birthed their children. I am happy that my children are young enough to not have understood the joke and felt like something was wrong with them because they are not the same race as their daddy. Shame on Nick jr! From now on my children will be watching Sprout, where I am sure that families like ours are embraced with shows like Pajanimals instead of made fun of in one liners!" - April
"I highley agree with not allowing this show to air. My son also gets up sometimes in the middle of the night. Nick jr was his first channel he started watching. He pays very close attention to it an all the shows on it. He like answering the questions the cartoons ask, so therefore I know he would also pay close attention to this new show an I want allow it. If the parents need a release of their children they can always turn the channel when they are playing or napping. I can only imagine what the other kid channels would start airing just to compete with this show. After its said an done their would be no more preschool channels. I keep my Cable on every month just so my toddler can see his shows. As a stay at home mom I vote agaisnt this show on a preschool channel.. they can always sell it to another channel an still make their money off of it." - Donna
This really is important to me. My kids have been watching Nick J.R. for just about their entire existence. The 24/7 educational programming helped get my children to where they are now. For instance, my soon-to-be-six year old son was far more prepared for Kindergarten than I had previously thought (according to the assessment that they had to do on him before school started), and my four year old daughter isn't far behind him. I could care less if "NickMom" existed on another channel, but the garbage aired within that four hour period of time has no place at all on a channel that was originally meant to benefit preschoolers. Ever since October 1st, I've had to deal with the confusion of my kids as they can't find their favorite shows between 10pm and 2am. Hell, my daughter has actually cried herself to sleep a few times since all of this happened. If Viacom feels that they need to advertise on Nick J.R., so be it, just bring the 24/7 educational programming back. Otherwise, they can take their greed and inconsiderate decision-making and shove it up their asses! Am I overreacting? Hell no. My children are my life, and I care deeply about what they are or may be exposed to. - Daniel
